HOW DOES MENTORING AT STUDENT NAVIGATOR WORK?

Typically we see our mentoring students throughout the academic year from September to July, or from the starting month, as we oversee the GCSE or A level year. Payment is made on a monthly basis and in a typical month we see the student two times.

However, in some months (December and April) we may see the student once due to school holidays and in some months (May and March) is may be three times depending on the proximity of exams. It is a bespoke service and there may be some variety depending on the needs of the student. Overall in an eleven month period a student will expect to have between 18-20 mentoring sessions.

Please take a look at our testimonial page to see what parents and students say about our mentoring sessions.

DO THE PROGRAMMES THAT YOU OFFER WORK REMOTELY?

Yes, all our programmes and mentoring can be successfully delivered remotely. During lockdown, we mentored all our students remotely. We see our students who live in the surrounding area in person. However, we see our other students remotely. Our students come from all over the British Isles and from overseas.

WHO IS MENTORING AIMED AT?

The secondary mentoring is aimed at GCSE and A level students from Year 10 and above. We do see younger students. We have some Y9 and Y8 students who come for occasional mentoring – one session every half term to teach study and organisation skills and for motivation. We also offer a transition session for Y7 students as they progress on to high school.

WHERE IS STUDENT NAVIGATOR BASED?
We are based in North Leeds.

DOES ATTENDING ACADEMIC MENTORING GUARANTEE SUCCESS?

While the vast majority of our students are very successful in both improving outcomes and developing skills, there is no guarantee of success.

DO THE PARENTS HAVE TO ATTEND MENTORING SESSIONS?

No, they do not need to attend, although we do ask that a parent or carer attends the first session so that both the student and parent feel comfortable with the process. However, after that, it is up to the parent and student whether they attend. Some parents attend every session, others don’t attend at all and some parents dip in from time to time. However, we will offer feedback as to what takes place during sessions and keep in touch via email.
